It is the traditional system for aligning teeth in adults. Once dental exchange is complete and facial growth is completed (in most cases between 12 and 13 years) it is no longer possible to make skeletal changes to a stabilized structure and therefore, to correct the malocclusion, it is necessary to move teeth mechanically with fixed appliances.

Fixed appliances consist of a part attached to the teeth (brackets) which places metal arches in special, appropriately designed connections. Bows are modified, modeled and replaced as needed until the case is complete. In addition, other components such as rubber bands, springs, screws and external pulls are essential.

Metal brackets can be used, but other materials can be used to make these brackets, such as ceramics. Ceramic braces, also called "aesthetic" brackets, have a color similar to that of the teeth and are therefore less visible.
